             Gokak Falls This is our pride of India Gokak Falls which is similar to Niagara Falls in America. It is wonderful to see and hear the rushing water gushing over the rocks amidst the beautiful melodious green leaves and it gives you an experience of being in another world.

 Important information about Gokak Falls. 

 1 Gokak Falls is formed by the river Ghataprabha. 


2 The water of this falls flows from west to east.  

3 People flock like oceans to see the sight of it plunging from about 180 feet above 


4 Across the river near the waterfall there is a suspension bridge construction of about 201 meters (659ft) with solid walls of stone piers and the bridge is still in existence.

5 Below the falls is an old hydroelectric generating station which may still be operational


6 In 1887 AD, hydroelectricity was generated for the first time in the country

 7 Near the waterfall there is a textile factory built in 1887 AD where new beautiful clothes are manufactured and people come more often than cloths.

8 British-era constructions at Gokak Falls still look like dolls.




9 The first thing to see at Gokaka Falls is the Mahadwara of the Mahalingeshwar Temple.

 10 Facing the Mahadwara is a cotton mill which means a textile factory

 11 Mahalingeshwar Temple is also known as Tarakeshwar Temple.


12 This temple is said to have been built in the 11th century by the 3rd Kartyavira, the 7th king of Ratta.

 13 A beautiful Shivlinga can be seen inside the temple.

 14 This temple consists of Ardha Mantapa, Mukha Mantapa, Sukhanasi, Garbhagriha.

 15 A British officer, Gediyar James Cambial, has also studied this temple.

 16 People come from June to December to see Gokak Falls.

 17 It can be said that Gokak is the second largest city of Belgaum.

 Established on 1853, the Old Municipality was built simultaneously with the Pune Municipality.

 19 Gokak Karadantu, which is famous in Gokak, has gained fame both in the state and abroad.

 20 Gokak Falls is the 2nd largest waterfall in Karnataka and it gushes from the top of horseshoe  shaped sandstone cliff  after along winding course.

 21 Gokak Falls is located 6 km from Gokak city and 60 km from district Belgaum.
